Summary
A stunning, tragic memoir about John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette, and his cousin Anthony Radziwill, by Radziwill’s widow.

What Remains is a vivid and haunting memoir about a girl from a working-class town who becomes an award-winning television producer and marries a prince, Anthony Radziwill. Carole grew up in a small suburb with a large, eccentric cast of characters. At nineteen, she struck out for New York City to find a different life. Her career at ABC News led her to the refugee camps of Cambodia, to a bunker in Tel Aviv, and to the scene of the Menendez murders. Her marriage led her into the old world of European nobility and the newer world of American aristocracy.

What Remains begins with loss and returns to loss. A small plane plunges into the ocean carrying John F. Kennedy Jr., Anthony’s cousin, and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Carole’s closest friend. Three weeks later Anthony dies of cancer. With unflinching honesty and a journalist’s keen eye, Carole Radziwill explores the enduring ties of family, the complexities of marriage, the importance of friendship, and the challenges of self-invention. Beautifully written, What Remains “gets at the essence of what matters,” wrote Oprah Winfrey. “Friendship, compassion, destiny.”

Wow! What a great book! I was glued to it. I’m a Housewife’s fan and always wondered how Carol Radziwill fit in. Now I know. What a brave and honest story. Heartbreaking that she lost 3 loved ones within a few weeks. Loved listening to her tell her story. Thank you Carol for sharing.

I so enjoyed listening to this book. A glimpse into the lives of famous, yet real, people. I particularly like that it is read by the author.

I think this book was so beautifully written. I read this book when it first came out. I loved it then….. there is something about hearing the author’s voice. Many years ago when I read this I got emotional……. 20 yrs later Carole’s voice has the same effect……Carol Radziwell is an amazing writer! I hope she writes many more books!

Being quite interested in all Kennedys, I found this book ..to be a different slant on their lives. Although, not really about THE KENNEDYS...I got a glimpse of their close relatives that I had never seen before. The reader was not great, but I got used to her. If you are a Kennedy Buff and interested in the behind the scenes of the rich and famous, you might enjoy this book. Otherwise...I'd skip it...wasn't a 'must read' but great if you are into the lives of the KENNEDYS.

The book itself was excellent. It made me laugh and cry at times. The profound loss of the author really made me think. I did not like the reader. Her voice did not lend itself to the richness of the emotional context of the book.
