Summary
The #1 New York Times bestseller about a famous novelist held hostage in a remote location by his “number one fan.” One of “Stephen King’s best…genuinely scary” (USA TODAY).

Bestselling novelist Paul Sheldon thinks he’s finally free of Misery Chastain. In a controversial career move, he’s just killed off the popular protagonist of his beloved romance series in favor of expanding his creative horizons. But such a change doesn’t come without consequences. After a near-fatal car accident in rural Colorado leaves his body broken, Paul finds himself at the mercy of the terrifying rescuer who’s nursing him back to health—his self-proclaimed number one fan, Annie Wilkes. Annie is very upset over what Paul did to Misery and demands that he find a way to bring her back by writing a new novel—his best yet, and one that’s all for her. After all, Paul has all the time in the world to do so as a prisoner in her isolated house...and Annie has some very persuasive and violent methods to get exactly what she wants...

“King at his best…a winner!” —The New York Times
“Unadulteratedly terrifying…frightening.” —Publishers Weekly
“Classic King…full of twists and turns and mounting suspense.” —The Boston Globe

Another great read!! I loved the movie but the book gave more detail with regards to Misery and Annie’s obsession with her stories. The narrator was great! She did an awesome job with the sounds SK was describing in the book! I listen to the book with my Apple Air Pod Pros on noise cancellation and found I heard all the background sounds (traffic, phone ringing, etc)

This book is an immediate thrust into insanity. You know from the jump that something is off about why Paul is in this bed and that Annie isn't as pure of heart as she portrays. As the "Hole opens up" in pages of this novel....you begin your decent into overwhelming despair, madness, and disbelief. This book exceeded my expectations as I already knew the story from the film adaptation but the book is SOO MUCH MORE FUN. There is so much hate in this book that it spews from the pages. You will hear typewriter clicks in your dreams. You will cheer! You will gasp! You will enjoy this book! King delivers something incredible. The only downside of the book is the bouncing between the actual story you are reading and the one Paul is writing but this aids you understanding Paul and keeps you grounded in the present. Annie vs. the cop may be my favorite literary death of all time. Like the book as a whole, when you think things couldn't get worse.....they most certainly do.
