Summary
The New York Times bestseller—part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series Halo!

2524. Harvest is a peaceful, prosperous farming colony on the very edge of human-controlled space. But humanity has unknowingly trespassed on holy ground—straying into the path of the aggressive, theocratic empire known as the Covenant. What begins as a chance encounter between an alien privateer and a human freighter soon catapults all of mankind into a struggle for its very existence.

But humanity is also currently locked in a bitter civil war of its own: the Insurrection. With resources strained to the breaking point, the ultimate survival of Harvest’s citizens falls to a squad of battle-weary UNSC Marines and their inexperienced colonial militia trainees. In this unlikely group of heroes, one will stand above the rest—a young Marine staff sergeant named Avery Johnson....

I've listened to several of the Halo books so far and have enjoyed them but this was my least favorite so far. The author definitely gives you a lot more small details than the early books in the series. Some of the details are really interesting as part of the Halo universe. But sometimes they are just physical expressions the characters are making or their inner dialogue and emotions. It made following the plot difficult at times. Many scenes I wanted the author to get back on track to the details that moved the story along. I don't regret listening to it. I'm sure there are people out there that will like all the little scene details. But it won't the first on my list to relisten to.

Excellent book by Staten. My only gripe is the narrators constant mispronunciations of names

Really enjoyed the book, touched on some interesting elements and content that is associated with the wider universe. Also, a big fan of the narrators, by far one of my favourite ones yet.
