Summary
The first book in twenty-five years from “one of our great comic minds” (The Washington Post) features Seinfeld’s best work across five decades in comedy.

Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub “Catch a Rising Star” as a twenty-one-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. “Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders,” Seinfeld writes. “So I have everything I thought was worth saving from forty-five years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.”

For this book, Jerry Seinfeld has selected his favorite material, organized decade by decade. In this “trove of laugh-out-loud one-liners” (Associated Press), you will witness the evolution of one of the great comedians of our time and gain new insights into the thrilling but unforgiving art of writing stand-up comedy.

Seinfeld may be a great writer but this audiobook is horrible. It’s like a stand up comedy special but before every joke some monotone person tells the jokes title, making flow impossible.

I wish it was just him talking.

We bought this for a family road trip and loved it. The history of Jerry’s beginning and hearing how comics think is interesting and we like how the material is broken up into decades. We were all laughing and repeating the jokes after, because everything relates to real life. It’s fun to listen to between other reads as well.

I love Jerry, and have followed his career across decades. I love seeing him in “Comedians in Cars...” because I love his interaction with other comics going over material. It’s the one case that I don’t mind seeing my sausage being made. But when it came to listening to this book, I found it incredibly dull. Perhaps it’s the format, or perhaps it’s just the delivery - without laughs behind it - and the fact that I’ve heard this material countless times over the decades, that made me not really enjoy it. I knew what I was getting going into it, so I’m not disappointed, just...whelmed.

I've seen Jerry live at least 3 times live, and this is almost as good as it gets to being there without waiting in the lines to get the tickets! If I could give this one 6 stars, I would give it that. If you ever want to learn about comedy, this is one to read, yet furthermore he just has continuous line after line that gets you going. You don't want to miss this one! Amazing!
